When the river runs dry, it reveals the rubbish in the water like shopping trolleys, but it also reveals the gold and treasure hidden in the mud.
When the river runs dry, it reveals the rubbish in the water like shopping trolleys but it also reveals the gold and treasure hidden in the mud. The same is true for businesses. When the cash runs low, or some problems cause tension and a constriction on capacity, then two things are revealed.
Firstly, the areas where you haven't done the work; to build processes and systems, to build relationships strong enough to withstand the tough times and not just the good times, to save cash and to create spare capacity to deal with crisis.
Secondly, like the gold in the river, what is also revealed is the qualities of your people, the strength in your mission and the stickiness of your culture. Tough times are not easy. But they are part of the roller coaster of owning and running a business. And they won't last forever. Embrace them, enjoy them and look out for the valuable lessons.
